AI Agents Now Create the Majority of New Databases on Supabase

By AI SaaS Radar Team · Aug 2026 · 4 min read

Supabase, the open-source Firebase alternative, closed a $500 million Series F on June 4, 2026, at a $10.5 billion valuation, led by GIC, with Stripe making its second investment in the company and Salesforce Ventures joining as well. The valuation doubled in just eight months.

The more striking number in the announcement is not the raise itself. Supabase says AI coding agents, with Claude Code specifically cited as the single largest contributor, now create the majority of new databases on its platform. That shift has driven 600% year-over-year growth in database creation, a rate that has nothing to do with human developers signing up faster and everything to do with agents provisioning infrastructure as a routine part of doing their job.

Supabase now counts more than 250,000 customers and over 9 million developers on the platform. Read against the database creation numbers, that suggests a meaningful share of what looks like organic platform growth is actually downstream of coding agents defaulting to Supabase when they need a backend, not developers individually choosing it project by project.

For a backend platform, being the default an agent reaches for is arguably more valuable long-term than being the default a human developer chooses, since agents provision infrastructure at a volume and frequency no individual developer matches. It also means Supabase's growth is now partly a bet on staying the path of least resistance for Claude Code and its peers, not just on its own product being good.
